Songs to learn English

This entry has been seen for more than 400 people in my first blog, what really strikes me. It makes me wonder, and also I would like to share it with you, and compare this list with the list I have been doing this term. I hope you enjoy and, in the end, come to the conclusion that songs are a boy's or girl's best friend...

APRENDER INGLÉS ESCUCHANDO (Y APRENDIENDO) CANCIONES

No sé muy bien cuál es la razón de que las cosas entren mejor con música, como señaló una querida profesora allá en mis años mozos, pero lo cierto es que es así. La música parece ayudar a una mejor retención y lo aprendido con ella tardamos más tiempo en olvidarlo.

¿Qué ventajas tiene el utilizar la música para aprender inglés? En mi opinión hay tres razones o ventajas para ello:

Una, es el propio disfrute que nos proporciona la música por sí misma.

Otra, que por el hecho de utilizarla para aprender inglés, mejoraremos nuestra pronunciación (en general del idioma), fijaremos mejor en nuestra mente la pronunciación concreta de ciertas palabras, aprenderemos el contexto  adecuado en el que se emplea una palabra (sin él, a veces la palabra aprendida no nos sirve para nada, ojo al dato), así como expresiones o phrasal verbs que nunca olvidaremos, pues reforzamos su aprendizaje desde distintas perspectivas.

Por último, hay letras (como son las de estas canciones), que encierran un mensaje en sí mismas que las hace muy atractivas, porque nos llevan a PENSAR (¡cuidado, has leído bien, pensar!), lo cual es recomendable, si se hace “en pequeñas diócesis”.  Además, su sentido suele ir cambiando a medida que pasan los años y el escuchante va ganando en experiencias y sabiduría (en una palabra, en vida).

La música siempre es la mejor ayuda para aprender un idioma y familiarizarse con él cuando no tenemos otro medio (cosa que no es el caso en la actualidad, pero sí lo era en mis tiempos). Siempre hay un ramillete de cantantes y músicos que nos pueden ayudar en esta tarea. Os doy unas sugerencias para aquellos que estudiéis otro idioma:
